Groam House Museum Banner Project

Earlier this year the Muir of Ord Arts Group had the opportunity to take part in a project involving five Black Isle community groups given the opportunity to create felt banners to celebrate the work of George Bain who is referred to as the ‘father of modern Celtic design’. Members of the Arts Group and other people from Muir of Ord worked over five days to design and create a banner to reflect elements of Celtic design and important aspects of Muir of Ord history and culture.

All five banners are currently on display at Highland Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness. The banners will be displayed at Glasgow Concert Hall during the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow throughout January 2016. All five banners will be returned to the five Black Isle communities – Muir of Ord, Culbokie, Resoilis, Avoch & Rosmarkie – following the Celtic Connections Festival.

  1. Nice to see that the banners will be seen in Glasgow during the massively popular Celtic Connections Festival. Well done to the artists and makers.
